John Tolentino (he/him/his) is a Filipino queer therapist, social worker, educator, and doctoral candidate. They offer trauma-informed, culturally responsive counselling for individuals and communities navigating identity, grief, migration, complex trauma, and life transitions.

John’s approach is relational, collaborative, and grounded in safety. Their work integrates somatic and parts-informed practices, emotional literacy, and meaning-centered therapy, while remaining flexible to each client’s pace and needs. Clients often describe John as calm, attuned, and gently directive—someone who creates space for both depth and grounding.

As a migrant and racialized practitioner, John brings a deep awareness of how culture, family systems, colonial histories, and systemic inequities shape mental health. They have particular experience working with Filipino and Asian diasporic communities, queer and trans clients, caregivers, and helping professionals.

John is the founder of John Tolentino Counselling and Consulting and a founder of the BC Filipino Therapist Association, where they support community-based healing, clinician capacity-building, and ethical practice. Above all, John believes healing happens in relationship—and that therapy can be a place to feel seen, supported, and resourced.
